Kokoni: An ancient Greek small breed that many do not know

Companion dogs, happy, independent, and very loyal

It is a totally Greek race, and even an ancient one, which many do not know. Infinite representations of vases, statues, figurines and coins reveal the existence of this terrible dog and its close relationship with the ancient Greek family. From references to texts and engravings, this dog appears from antiquity until today in an unbroken continuity throughout Greece.

Kokonia were called "promos", because they were walking around women's legs as they prepared the food in the fireplace. The Athenian rulers took them with them on the market. In most children's depictions from ancient times - e.g. at the Museum of Vravrona - we will see this little dog accompanying them.

GENERAL APPEARANCE

Kokonia reach 23-26 cm height and 4-8 kg weight, which classifies them in small breeds.

CHARACTER

The crown is considered the Greek little pet dog. Always happy, independent, particularly faithful, and talkative, has nothing to jealous of a Peking or a Terrier.

His muzzle looks a bit like a fox since it is long and his body is a bit longer than the height of his legs. But what earns you right away is his big, wonderful eyes. One more detail is that it has very good health and will not concern you either with your eyes or with your bones.

CARE

Dogs are durable and healthy, easily, without special care and nutrition requirements. As a breed, it has no hereditary health problems and lives for many years, perhaps because it was created through natural selection rather than human.

Because their fur is silky, the coats do not leave much coat inside the house. In the period when the mantle is changed (usually once a year), a two-minute-three-minute brushing is sufficient to pick up the dead hair on the brush.

IMPORTANT FOR THE END

One thing you need to know is that the coconuts do not look like the other small ones. They are not hugs. They can live comfortably inside the house, but also in the garden. They also need exercise and running, they like to learn, but they mostly need our company. They perceive everything, they have a sense of what is going on and give an alarm signal. They are best suited for children and elderly people, good dogs for the first time as they offer perfect cohabitation.
