Science explains why dogs live less than humans

What about other animals?

You will often wonder why our favorite animals have been living for so many years. Since these, like us, have heart, lungs and all other vital organs.

The short life of our beloved friend is very sad. We do not manage to live with him, to be glad and he has already completed his life cycle and is leaving ... Is not it unfair?

But that is nature. Scientists have been studying life expectancy for many years, having come to some conclusions. How many years an animal will live depends on its size. Larger animals live longer than small ones.

The main reason for this is the rate of their metabolism. The rate of metabolism means in other words how much gasoline burns a car. Cars that move to burn a little gas last longer than the others.

The same happens with animals. Large animals have a lower rate of metabolism than small ones for this and live longer.

But the point is that this does not work for all animals. Some, for example, parrots have a fast metabolic rate, but they live for over 80 years. The metabolic rate is associated with heart rate, and some parrots have a heart rate of more than 800 beats per minute (the human heart has 70 to 100 beats per minute).

But the dogs are from the animals that do not follow the above basic rule.

Why do dogs not fall under this rule?

We all know that dogs do the opposite. Large dogs live less than small ones. A Great Dane lives about 8 years while a small Chihuahua can live for over 10 years. Unfortunately, we are not in a position to know exactly why this is the case. So scientists have concluded that large breeds grow much faster than small ones and that's why they live less. Two pounds of weight equate to about one month of life.

Everything has to do with survival

However, the experts talking about this also talk about the nature of survival. Large, for example, animals, such as elephants or whales, are less likely to be attacked in the wild by small animals, such as, for example, mice. And so they survive.

The good thing about our pets is that in recent years their life expectancy has doubled.
